Pre-School Inclusion Team
About Our Service
The Pre-School Inclusion Team provides support and training to childcare providers so that children with learning difficulties and disabilities are able to receive appropriate and inclusive childcare and early learning when accessing their childcare provision.
The role of the Pre-School Inclusion Team Area SENCOs (Special Education Needs Co-ordinator) and SEN Development Officers is to support childcare providers in the following ways:
- to meet the needs of all children including those with special educational needs and disabilities
- to ensure equality of opportunities
- to provide inclusive quality childcare
- to raise children’s achievement
In addition to this it is our responsibility to ensure that Early Years Foundation Stage childcare provisions meet their responsibilities in relation to
- Special Educational Needs (SEN) Code of Practice
- 2010 Equality Act
- Disability Discirmination Act 1995
- Disability and Equality
How do we achieve this?
The Pre-School Inclusion team provides advice and support in a variety of ways according to the childcare providers needs, this can include:
- offering advice and support to childcare providers to discuss specific Inclusion issues, such as implementation of the childcare provisions Special Education Needs/Equality of Opportunities policy and developing inclusive practices in order to respond to the needs of all children.
- providing advice and support to childcare providers on individual children in order to support planning to meet their needs.
- providing training for individual childcare providers or groups of staff designed to meet individual needs and promoting the development of good inclusive practices.
- supporting the childcare provider with Statutory Assessment Processes.
- planning and delivering training courses for staff who are new to the role of Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator (SENCO) or who require further training in order to develop the role.
How can you access the Service?
Primarily referrals to the service come directly from childcare providers and from the Portage service or medical staff. However, the service can be contacted on the details below.
